Friday, Sept. 4. Minneapolis, MN. 331 Club.

Morning in Decorah, another episode of quaintsville, Iowa. Bryan found an old tin suitcase in his dad’s garage and cleaned it up to use for merch.

Gary and I went for a run. We stopped in at a pet store called the Fish Garden in the lower level of an old Victorian house. They had a few rows of aquariums, as well as a cage-ful of baby hamsters, all sleeping together in a mound. I was pointing at something and I knocked over a betta. Jar, water, and betta all went sailing. We had to find the fish on the floor behind some pole things that were leaned up in the corner. I think the fish was ok. I still felt like a jerk.

We drove to Minneapolis to play at the 331 Club. It was a show in a big bar with a tin-pressed ceiling. They had a drunken spelling bee before the show.

We ate some pizza and drank gin and tonics. The sound guy was really nice. The sound was good and a decent corridor of people in the middle of the room stopped talking to check us out. Mike and Cindy Elder, our friends from Lincoln, were in town on vacation and came to the show. Cool.

Our friends Marshall and Nona put us up for the night. We almost killed our bassist, Chris, by giving him tea made of Douglas Fir. I guess he is allergic to pine. Luckily we discussed the tea’s ingredients right before he actually took his first drink. You’d think pine would be easy to avoid, but no: when it’s not pesto or Christmas, it’s fancy tea. Too bad, Chris. The tea was delicious. So was breakfast, wow. What great people. Here’s a shrine that’s in Nona’s house and a picture of Gary by Marshall’s sunflowers.
