Saturday, Sept. 5. Madison, WI. The Gates of Heaven.

We didn’t get to do any exploring in Minneapolis since the Madison date was an early show, at a synagogue called The Gates of Heaven with local bands Meteorade and El-Tin. The Gates of Heaven is a small, beautiful synagogue in a park right next to Lake Mendota.

There was some kind of Taste of Madison festival going on in the streets; we got some lemonade. The show was great. I played a bunch of songs solo while Bryan and the guys from the other bands worked on a fix for a buzzing PA. El-Tin fun did a junky surf rock thing with drums and guitar and lots of harmonies. Meteorade was a good rock band.

The singer in El-Tin Fun, Jason, seems to run a cool tape label or something, or at least puts out his own stuff with fun hand-made packaging. I showed him the chapbook I just published of some of my drawings and poems. He had a similar zine of his own drawings and song lyrics. His drawings were great.

Jason’s stuff:

Our friend Luke Polipnick put us up for the night, and cooked us an amazing pot of Vietnamese soup. We felt pretty spoiled by all the nice food.
